Montevideo stores

De Montevideo magazijnen op het Eilandje werden in 1895 opgericht in de industriele stijl die eigen is aan de Antwerpse haven: hoge grote ruimtes met bijzondere lichtinval.

De shed-daken waren naar het noorden gericht zodat de opgeslagen goederen minder snel zouden bederven.

Tot 1950 dienden zij als opslagplaats voor het Engelse leger en bulkten ze van de boter, kaas, sigaretten, ham, koffie en thee.

Net als De Shop en de Red Star Line magazijnen werden ze in 2002 vrijgegeven.

R&S Vastgoed, aan wie de magazijnen in 2003 werden toegewezen, zal er lofts, kantoren en parkings in onderbrengen.

Op het Limaplein komt een transparant poortgebouw dat het introverte pakhuis een wat opener karakter moet geven.

Binnenin komt een rechtlijnige binnenstraat met glazen dak, de bestaande gevels worden gerestaureerd en de vergroting van het gebouw zal enkel ondergronds gebeuren.

The Montevideo stores on the small island are build in 1895,

in the industrial style which is own to the Antwerp port: high large spaces with particular lightfall. The shedroofs are aimed to the north so that stored goods would spoil less rapidly.

Up to 1950 the warehouses are used for the English army to store butter, cheese, cigarettes, ham, coffee and tea.

Just like 'The Shop' and the Red Star Line the buildings are released in 2002.

R& S real estates, to which the stores in 2003 were assigned, will build here lofts, offices and parkings.

On the Limaplein they are going to build a transparent building that gives an open character to the Montevideo stores.

Inside comes a straight street with a glass roof, the existing gables are restored and the enlarging of the building will happen only underground.
